May 6, 2016 – CBL & Associates Properties Inc. announced today that DICK’S Sporting Goods and Ulta Beauty are coming to College Square Mall in Morristown. The two new stores will be situated in the former JC Penney’s location.
“It’s exciting when we have national retailers locate here, giving people throughout the region another shopping opportunity,” Hamblen County Mayor Bill Brittain said. “As we continue to grow our retail base and look to become even more of a retail hub for the region, it will provide fewer reasons for people to go out of town to do their shopping.”
Construction on both stores is set to begin in early May with anticipated grand openings prior to holiday 2016, according to the CBL press release.
“We are excited, both CBL and the mall management office, about the recently announced additions,” Mike Kaufman, College Square mall general manager, said. “We feel both are exciting new additions and will bring even more vibrant tenants to the property. Both stores are popular with shoppers; they should serve the market well and be a wonderful addition to the tenant mix at College Square Mall.”
DICK’S will encompass approximately 45,000 square feet of space in the former JC Penney’s location, according to Kaufman. The Ulta store will be approximately 10,000 square feet in size, taking up a portion of the JC Penney site and the smaller spaces to the right of the mall’s main entrance, including the former county satellite office and the Miracle Ear stores that have exited the mall.
Kaufman has been negotiating the sites for the new retailers over the past several months. “It’s a very good type of busy,” he said. “These new stores are going to be wonderful.” The impending arrival of new retailers is a sign that, unlike other mall locations throughout the county, College Square is a healthy shopping hub. “In a lot of cases, malls can be reflections of the community and demographics that surround them,” Kaufman said. “We are fortunate to have an outstanding location within our market, not only to service Morristown and Hamblen County, but to serve the outlying counties. Ease of access has benefitted the property, along with CBL’s commitment to increase the tenant mix by making some of these outstanding changes to the property and keep the property viable. Morristown is also showing signs of progress from the retail prospective. We are happy to be a part of that.”
Kaufman said he is continuing negotiations with several other retailers and service-based companies and will release news of those development in the future.
“We are excited to bring DICK’s Sporting Goods and Ulta Beauty to College Square Mall,” Stephen Lebovitz, CBL president and chief executive officer, said. “These new stores couples with the recent addition of TJ Maxx and Longhorn Steakhouse in the former Sears building demonstrate our ongoing commitment to reinvest in the growth of College Square Mall and to provide shoppers with a broad range of shopping options. Re-developing anchor locations continues to be a priority for CBL allowing us to both create value in our centers and to satisfy the strong retail demand for CBL properties.”
