April 6, 2018 – The Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Morristown Industrial Development Board, announced this week that one of the city’s industrial sites under development has been named a Select Tennessee Certified Site.
The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development recently designated Lot 3 in the East Tennessee Progress Center a Select Tennessee Certified Site.
The site, consisting of 116 acres, features a 42-acre graded development pad that is considered appealing to prospective companies looking to minimize pre-construction costs and shorten construction timelines. Other key attributes of the site is the abundant electric service, the site’s proximity to Interstate 81 at Exit 8 and the heavy industrial zoning with other industrial operations nearby.
Launched in 2012, the Select Tennessee program helps communities prepare available industrial sites for private investments. The program sets rigorous standards to give companies detailed and reliable information during the site selection process.
Fifty-four sites across Tennessee have now been certified. To date, 12 companies have invested more than $1.3 billion in capital to construct facilities on certified sites, accounting for nearly 5,600 job commitments.
“The process to certify this site was long and very detailed,” stated Marshall Ramsey, President of the Morristown Area Chamber of Commerce. “But if has helped us prepare our site for the next company that is looking to locate or expand in Morristown and Hamblen County.” He went on the say he appreciates that the state offers this program to further economic development in our community as well as throughout the state.
The Select Tennessee certification process ensures that each certified site meets high-quality standards. Qualifications for the certification include having at least 20 acres of developable land for industrial operations, proper zoning to allow for ease of development, existing onsite utilities or a formal plan to extend utilities to the site, and truck-quality road access.
