Original Footwear Company celebrated the opening of its new facility in Morristown with a ribbon cutting on November 4, 2014.
Located at 5968 Commerce Blvd. in the Morristown Airport Industrial District, Original Footwear Company specializes in creating tactical footwear for law enforcement, military and emergency medical technicians. The company will invest $10 million and create 182 jobs. Founded in 1999, the company’s brand names include Altama and Original SWAT.
“We are excited about this opportunity to continue to grow our business as we work to become the leading supplier to our nation’s law enforcement, military and service professionals,” owner and CEO Kevin Cole said. “Every day, hundreds of thousands of men and women put their lives on the line to protect the American way of life. Our mission is to give them the best possible footwear to help them do their jobs. We are thankful for all the support the State of Tennessee and especially the City of Morristown have provided us.”
The ribbon cutting was attended by a number of city and county officials, including Morristown Mayor Danny Thomas. “We’re excited about the investment that is being put here by Original Footwear … thank you for the additional jobs you are creating,” Thomas said. “We appreciate the quality product that you are making for the thousands of men and women that secure our country and are involved with public safety. City council and city staff are committed to do all that is possible to help make your company a success. We appreciate your confidence in our community and look forward to future expansions.”
Hamblen County Mayor Bill Brittain reminded the crowd of the influx of retail and manufacturing opportunities over the past year. “Here we Grow again! I keep saying that it is an exciting time to live and work in Morristown and Hamblen County with all the economic activity that is taking place,” Brittain said. “It’s very encouraging for the whole community to see us grow and prosper. I want to thank Original Footwear Company for showing its confidence in our community by making the investment in equipment and jobs. I think you will find that this is a great place to do business because of the dedicated people who work here.”
“We’re certainly glad we have been able to help Kevin to restore this manufacturing facility in the Morristown Airport Industrial District,” Industrial Board Chairman Jack Fishman added. “One of the things we like to do in industrial development is find jobs for people in our community that will enable them to make a living.”
Original Footwear acquired the assets of Tactical Holdings, Inc. in Morristown and plans to capitalize on the existing 110,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility and add an additional 65,000 square feet which will result in a fully funcitonal shipping and warehousing arm of the operation.
